More Smiles

Thanks everyone for your comments, encouragement and prayers for Li Li as she adjusts. One nice things about her bonding with Keith so well is that he is the one who is up with her at night when she wakes. It seems to be her norm that she will wake up about 2 times a night crying her mourning cry. This morning she woke up around 6 and never went back to sleep. Keith kept her entertained while Koen and I slept.

We’ve had a pretty good day so far. Li Li is giving me a lot more smiles and even let me hold her hand and carry her for a bit at breakfast this morning. She played peekaboo with me for a while from behind my chair. We’re finding she’s much happier when she’s eating or full. I know that seems obvious, but it’s hard for this American to feed this picky little Chinese girl. We had her medical check up this morning. Thankfully, she didn’t need to get any immunizations and we were in and out within about 30 minutes. She cried through most of it, but now we’re one step closer to bringing her home. Li Li weighed in at 20.06 lbs (3% on Chinese growth chart for girls –
9.1 kg) and is 32.3 inches tall (20% – 82 cm). Several months ago she was rounder and shorter on the charts. I’m not sure how accurate it was today – they had so many kids they were rushing through the exams. The kiddos are sleeping now and tonight we will go to dinner with our travel group. The other two families with our agency arrived last night from other provinces. We have thoroughly enjoyed our guide here. Cordelia has been great.

More on Li Li: she knows how to dress herself better than her big brother does (don’t tell him I said that), she imitates so many things we say and is now saying “hi” and “bye bye” when we talk to other families, she was pretty well potty trained but we’re letting her regress on that, she loves to drink her milk boxes and does not like to eat the crust on bread, she doesn’t like pizza (learned this at lunch), she does not like to wear a bib, she likes to have clean hands, she enjoys folding and unfolding things like napkins and her little blankie, she likes cinnamon rolls (discovered this at Starbucks this morning)….. We learn more every day about her.
