Tonight we took Li Li to church for the first time. There was a special prayer meeting that we thought would be low key and a good intro to church for her. She did get a lot of attention, but she really thrives on it. She’s so social and quite a performer. Keith, Li Li and I sat in the back of the sanctuary during worship and she did better than I thought. She stayed pretty quiet when needed and even joined in raising her hands in worship when she saw others do so. She’s such an imitator.
Once the service got quieter, I took her back to childcare and stayed with her. There were a lot of kids in the room, but she did not seem at all over stimulated by it and played quite well. There were several times where she wandered a little far from me, but she would always come back. Afterwards, as we were mingling with friends who had yet to meet her (which is most everyone), she would find my eyes from across the room, and a couple times she came running up to me when Keith put her down. More good signs that she’s starting to attach to me.
As she gets more tired at night though, she definitely prefers Keith still. We’ve made bottle time a nightly bed-time routine and still haven’t been able to get her to take it sitting in my lap. She’ll take it from me if Keith is holding her in his lap, but not if he is right next to me while I hold her.
Koen did really well as a big brother today. There were several times where he spontaneously gave his little sister a hug, and instead of yelling “NO WI WI!” (still working on those Ls), he’s been saying “no, no, no” in a much more patient tone. He’s already learned to be the bossy eldest sibling! On the way home from church tonight they were both deliriously tired and suger loaded and had a great time sitting next to eachother making noises. Li Li imitates so much of what Koen does. There have been several times where she sees him sucking his fingers and she sticks all her fingers in her mouth too – not a habit we’d like her to pick up!
New word for the day: Monkey (Koen is very attached to his monkey and Li Li has a little pink monkey we sent her in a care package that she’s been carrying around after seeing how he loves his.)
