It’s a great way to celebrate Chinese New Year – isn’t it? We received an email today that our home study is on it’s way to the Immigration Office.
Yesterday I called our agency to get an updated timeline. I came away feeling really heavy from the conversation. It sounds like the Immigration process has slowed down significantly from the 33-45 days I was told it would take about a month ago. Now we need to expect 2-3 months before we hear back from the US government that we’re approved to adopt a child. 😦 Then I forgot about the next step, when our dossier spends 3-4 weeks at the Consulate before it’s ready to go to China. And then, I also underestimated the time it would take between being DTC (Dossier to China) and Travel, which they said is about 5-8 months. With Liliana, our DTC to travel time was 7 months and that was VERY long compared to those around us as our LOA took record time.
So, I was dreaming about going around September, and now it’s looking like December – February is more likely. And, my hopes for a baby boy is also looking less likely.
Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year holiday and we are celebrating with our good friends this evening. It’s one of the important days of the year that my thoughts are drawn to Li Li’s foster family and birth family. And now they’re drawn to the birth family of our next child too. I wonder if they are able to celebrate with a full heart, or if they are reminded of the child that isn’t celebrating with them, or in their arms right now.
