Last week we sent a list of questions through our agency, to Min Hui’s orphanage. I’ve been checking my email like mad since, and the update arrived today. Sadly (and this affected my mood more than it should have), we didn’t get new photos. The last photos we have of our boy are from May and he had a wound on his head at the time. I still pray every day that his head is healed. It probably is, but I just don’t know….
Anyway, we learned a little more about our baby. He’s up to 14 lbs and is 43 cm long. He likes to watch TV (don’t they all!), play with toys and sit in his walker. He gets upset when he is left alone, and is comforted by being held (so thankful the nannies have time to hold him!). Min Hui is eating some solids, including “cookies, cake and fruit.” I’m assuming they mean something more like crackers, but we’ll see. He may like sweets!!
He cries when he is hungry and when he doesn’t have a toy. They orphanage doesn’t have him on a feeding schedule, but feeds him when he acts hungry. He doesn’t usually sleep through the night, but will wake up for a bottle (uh oh!!). To help him fall asleep the nannies give him a bottle, and pat him (thankful they give him that extra attention!). He isn’t crawling yet.
I just can’t wait to meet this little one. I’m guarding my expectations more than I did with our first adoption, but it’s hard not to imagine what your child is like. Knowing the other adopted Chinese children I know, he will likely be a fiesty, loud, intelligent and energetic little one.
In other news, I finished my fourth season coaching the Kingsgate Royals summer swim team, and it was another good season. However, I am tired and glad to have about a month to rest, spend time with my big two kiddos, and prepare for our new arrival. Summer vacation started yesterday for me and I’m already sleeping in well!
